There will be NO referees assigned to games at U8 and lower (coaches act as on-field game officials). Generally, older soccer players are recruited for these paid positions. You must be two (2) years older than the age group you are refereeing. Certification as a referee is not required for games at U9-U10-U11 levels though you need a good knowledge of the rules/laws of the game as it applies to those levels. A minimum referee class 4 level is recommended for U12 games but that is up to the coordinator’s discretion. Check the “Quick Referee Guide 2008” for how the soccer rules apply for the different age group’s games. Community coordinators may check with the Referee Director for possible mini-soccer referee training clinics (a 3-4 hours session at your local facilities) to be hosted in a community near you. The community youth referee clinics are in developmental stages for 2008. Contact: EWZSA Referee Director Peter C.
